Busy weekend...
Nov. 12th, 2006 01:38 pmCrikey - it's still only Sunday.
Headed down to London on Friday to DJ B Movie. I have some notes and can remember some of my set lists, so will put one up later. I didn't totally muck up, press all the wrong buttons and blow everything up - which is good, as I was feeling pretty nervous about it, not having done much other than weddings, funerals and Bar Mitzvahs since
lupercal's crash. (Well no funerals and Bar Mitzvahs, but a couple of parties and a wedding reception, which is actually great fun as you can play stuff you couldn't in a club) Without over-analysing it all, I think it went okay, but I had some real problems trying to get the levels right, particularly after a man came and turned some knobs and everything became far too loud, and then later on some things weren't loud enough. Just very difficult to judge from the DJ box - what I should have done was gone out and stood on the dancefloor a couple of times to judge how the two compared. There was also a sticky button that stuck a couple of times and left that awful couple of seconds of silence that seem to last eleventy billion hours. I get very stressed over these sorts of things, because it means it's *just not good enough*. I appear to be over-analysing it...But all in all, I did *enjoy* it, and I think I gave three people on the dancefloor a jolly good time...
After B Movie, it was back up the A40 for the luxuries of the Park Royal Travelodge. On Saturday, we still hadn't found anything to do, but I had the brilliant idea of phoning my old friend from university R, who was in the process of moving house, but still found time to be hospitable. So we headed over to Chalk Farm, parked up, drank tea and then were given keys to come and go as we pleased. Then it was shopping in Camden, where you always seem to be walking in the opposite direction to everyone else. We got falafal, and I discovered that mine came with a free caterpillar. Se we left him on the only tree in Camden, and decided not to eat the rest, heading to Wagamama a little later instead.
Saturday night we headed to Slimelight to see Swarf support some other band who we didn't stay for as we had to drive back to Birmingham. Swarf are a *fantastic* band and should be far more famous than they actually are - they're certainly too good to be a support band at Slimelight. If you haven't listened to anything by them I suggest you go to their website and have a peek right now.
Then it was back to collect the car, and a load of stuff that R had given us in a desperate attempt to clear her house (
lupercal is now the ecstatic owner of a 15 year old Megadrive), and back to Birmingham. Had hoped to be able to pop in to see
november_girl on the way back, but Swarf finished later than we thought, and it took us longer than we thought, and Si wasn't feeling too well after the gig, so we came straight home.
Today, I have got about 10,000 words to do on the novel to get me up to target again, as I've not been able to get in front of the keyboard for any length of time for the past few days. So I better get back to it, really!
