Pome for today...Little Piece of Poo
Nov. 10th, 2005 11:36 am(Written on return from the toilet ten minutes ago. There is a tune to it.)
Little piece of poo
Floating in the loo
Someone who has come and gone
Has left you bobbing all alone
And didn't push the handle down
To flush you round the U
Little piece of poo
Not a pleasant view
Sitting in your toilet lake
Small lumpy fibrous flush mistake
Another cubical I'll take
Little piece of poo.

Not quite in Whitby yet...
Oct. 25th, 2005 09:12 amDeparture has been delayed by continued quest to try and get poor
lupercal's missed stitches taken out. This morning the doctor's receptionist has been very insistant that he comes in an hour and a half after our sceduled departure time to get them removed. My itinerary!!! Just a shame they couldn't have been so insistant about coming in when we phoned yesterday...As long as the surgery isn't running late, and the route up is fairly clear, we should get there in time to collect the keys, but I don't believe in either of these things so am panicing a little.
Anyway, time to go check some lists...

Anyway, time to go check some lists...
So far... hoovered rug and stairs, cleaned Cherwell, Fennel, the four boys, and Infy, installed Hot Potatoes on laptop so I can finish ILT training session thing for INSET day, done washing up, done washing clothes, booked gas fitter for a week on Wednesday, bought things and stuff in Kings Heath, phoned doctor and failed to get an appointment for
lupercal to have his two remaining stitches taken out (looks like a job for A&E at Whitby hospital...),taken things to post office, come home, taken things to post office again fully addressed, washed ratty things, hoovered rat room, decided what stuff I want to take to Whitby, taken Infy mouse to vet, taken
lupercal into Birmingham for last minute things and stuff shopping, bought cat food, made dinner, made a big pile of stuff to take to Whitby in the sitting room, dyed hair.
Still a big list of things to do!
We're off to Whitby tomorrow, by the way! Hope to see some of you there. Unlikely to have net access until back again.

Aug. 25th, 2005 10:46 pmTomorrow I will post my entry - Pooka the Brave - to The Little Tiger Press short story competition. Many thanks for
ashenkat for alerting me to it.
I am going to enter Children's Writers' & Artists' Yearbook 2006 competition.
I am going to send the synopsis and first three chapters of The Grumpskwallor to three publishers that accept unsolicited manuscripts by the end of this year.
If only I could find a publisher that accepted unsolicited manuscripts of children's poetry...

The best bit of news from the holiday...

Last Thursday, we were making our way to the Brough of Deerness, when I spotted a cat in the carpark. Not unusual as there are quite a few farm cats who wander around. Then I saw a kitten. In fact, in the corner of the carpark was cardboard box, and as well as the cat, there were *four* kittens. A group of American tourists, who had been fussing them, blithely infomed us that they were feral cats and survived on scraps from the tourists in the carpark. The mother was very thin, and two of the kittens looked as if they had cat flu’ – one kitten quite badly. How people can fuss over ‘cute’ animals and stroke them and not notice the condition they’re in I’m not sure, but the Americans didn’t seem to think that there was anthing wrong with a nursing mother and four sick kittens living in a cardboard box in a carpark. Heigh ho.
The problem with not knowing an area at all, is not knowing where to take the animals to, but when we got back to the cottage, I found the Scottish SPCA's phone number and gave them a call, trying to explain their location to someone else who didn't know Orkney at all with the aid of an OS map. She's said they'd send someone out, and that was that.
I had been thinking about them this week, so looked up the local SSPCA's number in Orkney and left a message. Have just got back from riding to find a message from the inspector to say that the kittens were collected last Thursday evening and put on a ferry to the Caithness centre, where they're all doing well.
Might give the centre a ring over the weekend to ask how they're doing and enquire about sending a donation.
Hurrah for rescued kittens!

Back home again.
Aug. 15th, 2005 06:29 pmJust got back from Orkney. Knackered. Bloody fabulous place. More on that perhaps tomorrow. Tonight food and beer. If something important has been uttered on LJ, please point me in its direction as 10 days is a long time in LJ land (or just let me know in a sentence what you've been up to this past week and a half)...
This does not appear to be good...
Jun. 15th, 2005 07:20 pmYou know that dull shocked feeling you get when you discover something that Is Not Good?
Well, a few days ago, I installed some software I have to use as an exam board marker. Things went a bit wrong and my system fell over. And refused to get up again. Lots of wrestling with installing XP followed.
Things *looked* like they were okay, except it refused to accept that programs I already had installed where installed, so I've had to do a lot of re-installing.
This evening, I've realised that my music folder, containing however many hundred MP3s I have, no longer appears to exist.
I may well be cancelling any DJ commitments from now on...

Large company in sense of humour shocker!
Jun. 13th, 2005 04:45 pmOne time when Simon and I were in Nottingham East Midlands airport, we came across a *fantastically* kitch faux olde English pub, called the Local Hero - upstairs in Departures, plastic fake thatched roof, faax wooden benches outside etc. etc. The place was *fabulous*. On our last trip the the airport, we discovered, much to our horror, that it had gone, being replaced with a different swanky new bar downstairs. I was so traumatised by this that I actually wrote an email of complaint to NEMA last week( Read more... )
...is that he can piss you off, upset you, make you utterly fed up - *to a certain extent* - last night's memory card fiasco a case in point. But these things are of very little importance. An esteemed colleague's cat was run over and killed yesterday evening. This evening, Mab is currently curled up in my lap. Biting me. Poor wee Moo. There's another star up in Cat Heaven tonight.
...and relax
Jun. 8th, 2005 12:27 amWith thanks entirely and gratefully due to the geekability and kindness of
kneeshooter, I now have *nearly* all of my photos from Cologne again. Some of the files are a bit corrupted and have had to be cropped a lot, and some of the pictures are ones that I took a better one of which hasn't been saved, but most of the memories are there.
Will sort them out and post them soon.
