One time when Simon and I were in Nottingham East Midlands airport, we came across a *fantastically* kitch faux olde English pub, called the Local Hero - upstairs in Departures, plastic fake thatched roof, faax wooden benches outside etc. etc. The place was *fabulous*. On our last trip the the airport, we discovered, much to our horror, that it had gone, being replaced with a different swanky new bar downstairs. I was so traumatised by this that I actually wrote an email of complaint to NEMA last week:
Nottingham East Midlands - deeply saddened
My partner and I have flown from Nottingham East Midlands a few times now, and have always found it a convenient, efficient and pleasant airport.
Last weekend we arrived and checked in for a weekend break in Cologne, but were horrified to discover that the beautiful 'Local Hero' pub no longer existed!
We always look forward to visiting it and quaffing a flagon of ale to calm those pre-flight nerves. But now, no more will we be able to enjoy its olde worlde charm, its delicately molded thatch, its authentic faux-wood tables and realistically timbered frame. It was a sad start to our holiday indeed.
In future we have no choice but to take our custom to the Courtyard Tavern at Alton Towers instead - which is most inconvenient for us, as the themepark offers a much more limited range of destinations than NEMA.
Please bring back the magic of merrie medieval England to Nottingham East Midlands! Please bring back the Local Hero pub!
Regards etc...
Today I received this response:
Thank you for your email referring to your recent visit to Nottingham East
Midlands Airport.
We were very sorry to learn of your disappointment when discovering the
Local Hero had been removed. We hope you managed to find the new '1965'
bar at the far end of the lounge, although not the merrie medieval
atmosphere of the Local Hero we hope you were still able to enjoy your
flagon of ale ?
Once again thank you for taking the time to write to us and we hope the
recent developments will not deter you from using NEMA again in the
future, I know you can go by 'Air' to 'Oblivion' but it's not as nice as
some of our 'rides' .....
Best Rgds etc
Heh. It's just given me a chuckle on a Monday afternoon...
