...the criminal who breaks into a field, and steals the thick winter rugs from the backs of old ponies on a freezing wet night in the middle of January...

That's what happened to five of the riding school horses and ponies a couple of weeks ago. Three of them were old retired ponies, and the two horses had just been clipped.

They were found at 8am the following morning soaking wet and shivering in the field.

Perhaps the worst thing about it is that it must have been committed by someone who knows about - and possibly owns - horses.

That's just totally utterly shitty.
Wankers.
There's little makes me more murderous than people being cruel to animals.

Pretty unlikely, though.

It was probably done by Gypos, we had a spate of thefts from yards around bradgate park about 5 years ago. The bastards hit pretty much all the yards and stole thousands of pounds worth of riding tack, including Neil's (he had a lovely saddle and because Charlie is so BIG he struggled to get a replacement for ages)

The gypos dont give a shit about their horses or anyone elses (I hate to generalise because I am sure that there are some that probably do care, but most of those that i have seen treat them like meat)

Are the old guys ok? Thats such an awful thing to do.

This happened to one of my friends near Chester - and of course, the stolen goods are only of any use to other horse-keepers.

Just as an aside, if such goods are sold at an ancient chartered market (market overt?) then the purchaser has bought such items in good faith and has legal title to them.
I'm always suspicious of some of the stuff on sale at auctions at older farm markets.
